Middle School Students to Exercise Reading Comprehension in Regional Battle of the Books Feb. 24
ESC Region 12 - 02/22/12
WHAT: Teams of sixth, seventh and eighth graders will go head-to-head with other local middle schools in this competition that will test their knowledge of books from the 2011 Lone Star Book list. The Texas Library Association releases this reading list each year with the goal to improve students’ reading level and expose them to new genres of literature. Teams consist of one teacher or librarian sponsor and up to five students (with one alternate). The winning team will receive medals and a set of the 2012 Lone Star books for their library or classroom, provided by Bound to Stay Bound Books. Barnes and Noble will also be supplying prizes for the winning team. The program and event is being coordinated by Education Service Center Region 12.

WHEN: 1 – 4 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2012

WHO: One hundred and ten middle school students from Central Texas will participate. Participating districts are Axtell, Bosqueville, Bynum, China Spring, Connally, Copperas Cove, Covington, Gatesville, Hillsboro, Lometa, Mart, Midway, Rogers, Temple and Waco.
